Massive shift in career aspirations as 8 out of 10 professionals eye

Massive shift in career aspirations as 8 out of 10 professionals eye new career paths this appraisal season, reports apna.co
- 54% of professionals prioritise career advancement opportunities, and 44% prefer better organisational culture as key factors for staying in their current roles
- With 62% expressing a desire for L&D initiatives, professionals underscore the crucial need for continuous skill enhancement to remain competitive in the evolving job market
National, April 05, 2024: As the appraisal season approaches, insights from the survey by apna.co, India’s leading jobs and professional networking platform, sheds light on the shifting dynamics of career aspirations among professionals. In contrast to the observed trend, a staggering 82% of respondents expressed their intention to switch jobs this appraisal season, signifying a significant churn in the job market. Research from Deloitte India and Randstad India confirms this trend, revealing that employees embracing additional roles reap better rewards like enhanced increments, double promotions, etc.
Key Motivators
While salary remains a crucial consideration, professionals are increasingly recognizing the value of other aspects within their current organisations. According to the survey, 54% of respondents identified career advancement opportunities as important, followed closely by 44% who emphasised the significance of organisational work culture. Additionally, 37% cited a sense of achievement or independence, while 21% expressed interest in international assignments or work-related travel.
Hindrance to Quality Work-Life
Despite the high intention to switch jobs, nearly 78% of professionals felt adequately supported by their colleagues and managers. However, challenges persist, with the survey revealing aspects of the work situation that are least satisfying or fulfilling. These include unclear communication and lack of direction as cited by 34% of the respondents, favouritism or bias in decision-making for 29%, and lack of recognition or appreciation for contributions by 29% of professionals.
Nirmit Parikh, Founder & CEO of apna.co, commented, “The report reveals the evolving aspirations and priorities of professionals in today’s dynamic job market. A significant proportion of professionals are actively seeking new career opportunities this appraisal season, driven by factors such as career advancement opportunities, work culture, and the desire for skill development. We remain committed to our mission of helping individuals and organisations succeed in the dynamic 21st-century job market.”
Professionals Focused on Professional Growth
In terms of professional growth, respondents expressed a strong preference for leadership roles and responsibilities (54%), access to advanced training programs or certifications (40%), and mentorship from industry experts or senior leaders (36%). The survey also revealed a notable contrast in respondents’ preferences. While 62% expressed a desire for Learning & Development/Skill development initiatives, indicating a strong emphasis on professional growth, only 44% highlighted the importance of mental health support initiatives. This discrepancy suggests a prioritisation of career advancement and skill development over international opportunities, with a growing recognition of the need for individual growth and mental well-being support in today’s workplace.
While networking opportunities were deemed essential by 46% of respondents for career advancement and building professional connections, a significant 30% emphasised the importance of autonomy and control over their tasks, valuing empowerment and independence. While 41% stressed the need for transparency in workplace communication, highlighting the desire for clear and open dialogue within the organisation, another 38% expressed a growing demand for remote work options, signalling the rising importance of flexible work arrangements in today’s professional environment.

Lighting the Fifth Wall: The Chromatic Iris by 6Hues Architecture Studio

Siliguri, March 2025: For over thirteen years, Siliguri-based designer Aayush Arya has been shaping refined residential spaces through his firm, 6Hues Architecture Studio. Known for merging luxury aesthetics with intelligent functionality, the studio specialises in high-end homes that feel both contemporary and deeply personal. Aayush is also an advocate for smart living, integrating advanced automation into his projects through his technology venture, Relay Automation.
Their latest creation, The Chromatic Iris, blurs the boundary between architectural lighting and digital art. Designed as a custom radial stretch-ceiling installation for immersive spaces like home cinemas, the fixture appears sleek and minimal by day. Powered by advanced DMX (Digital Multiplex) technology — commonly used in concert stage lighting — each segment of the installation can be individually addressed and programmed. This allows for seamless animations: from turbine-like motion effects to soft breathing gradients or deep monochromatic moods.
More than a light fixture, The Chromatic Iris transforms the ceiling into a dynamic canvas. It elevates the experience of a space — turning movie nights into cinematic events and everyday interiors into immersive environments. With this innovation, 6Hues Architecture Studio once again demonstrates how technology, design, and emotion can come together to redefine modern living.

When a Basin Becomes Architecture: Valueline Unveils Talea by Hatria

New Delhi, May 2026: Valueline, a pioneer in premium home solutions since 2001, introduces the Talea basin collection by Hatria, bringing a distinctly sculptural approach to the wash space. Known for its precision-led manufacturing and refined surface finishes, Hatria continues to draw from advanced production technologies and a responsible approach to material use, ensuring both performance and longevity.

Water, in its quiet rhythm, shapes the way a space is used and understood. The basin, often approached as a utilitarian element, has the potential to hold far greater presence through form, proportion, and the way it engages with light and touch.

The Talea collection is shaped by an idea of continuity, of forms that evolve rather than repeat. Its design takes cues from the act of propagation, where something grows outward while remaining connected to its origin. This thinking is reflected in the basin’s profile, which opens gently from its base into a wider, expressive form. The structure feels grounded yet fluid, carrying a sense of movement without excess.

There is a deliberate weight to the piece. The volume is solid, almost architectural, allowing it to hold its own within a space. At the same time, the contours remain soft enough to invite use, creating a balance between presence and comfort. Light travels easily across its surface, accentuating the precision of its finish and the clarity of its lines. Beyond form, the collection reflects Hatria’s focus on efficient production and sustainable processes, where material is used with care and waste is kept to a minimum. The result is a basin that is considered in both design and making.
Available at Valueline, Hatria’s Talea, wash basin moves beyond function, becoming a composed element within the interior defined by structure, material, and a quiet sense of intent.

“Continuum” Brings Art Into Living Spaces Through an Immersive Showcase

Continuum, an immersive art exhibition curated by Gauri Minocha, successfully previewed on 11 April 2026 at The Art Hub Gallery, Gurgaon. The exhibition runs from 12 April to 1 May 2026 and marks a new chapter, inviting audiences to experience art in a thoughtfully designed domestic setting that encourages a more personal, lived engagement.
Unfolding across rooms, hallways, stairways, terraces, and lawns, each space becomes an active site of interaction. This fluid spatial narrative mirrors the rhythms of everyday life—encouraging moments of rest, reflection, transition, and conversation, while allowing viewers to encounter art in an intimate and immersive manner.
Bringing together nearly 100 artworks, Continuum presents a carefully curated selection of South Asian artists across generations, ranging from modern masters to contemporary practitioners. Moving away from a linear curatorial framework, the exhibition creates intergenerational dialogues, placing works in conversation across time, mediums, and artistic approaches. These juxtapositions generate meaningful intersections between tradition and experimentation, memory and immediacy.
The exhibition features a diverse and expansive roster of artists including Avijit Roy, Badri Narayan, Bazil Habib, Deepak Kaushlya, Dharmanarayan Dasgupta, Francis Newton Souza, Ganesh Haloi, Hadia Hassan, Haneen Almoosawi, Jamini Roy, Jogen Chowdhury, Kanchan Chander, Kumari Nahappan, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Madhuri Bhaduri, Pallav Chander, Prakash Karmakar, Rabin Mondal, Ram Kumar, Ramkinkar Baij, Sanjay Kumar, Shakil Solanki, Simran KS Lamba, Somnath Hore, Sonaly Gandhi, Suhas Roy, Susanta Das, Tahira Noreen, The Art Hub Designs, Thilini Jinadasa, and Vivan Sundaram, among others—spanning generations, geographies, and artistic disciplines.
By situating artworks within lived interiors as well as open-air settings, Continuum dissolves boundaries between art and everyday life, as well as between interior and exterior, and private and public spaces. The exhibition encourages a slower, more contemplative mode of viewing—where art is experienced not in isolation, but as part of a continuous, evolving environment.
