Umrao Jaan Ada: The Musical – From August 3rd at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium

In collaboration with Paytm and Insider.in, Gravity Zero Entertainment is launching ‘Umrao Jaan Ada – The Musical’ – a tale of ill-fated love in a 19th-century court, straight from the City Of Nawabs. The makers of internationally acclaimed West End show “Beyond Bollywood”, are all geared up to showcase this play from August 3rd to 11th at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Delhi.
This enchanting extravaganza is recreated on stage with live singing, music and extraordinary performances by the director Rajeev Goswami, a stalwart of Bollywood with more than 15 years of experience in the Indian Film Industry, and Bollywood’s wizards of music Salim Sulaiman. Lyrics have been penned by Irfan Siddiqui the famous lyricist with movies like Iqbal, Fashion, Heroine, Kurbaan, and Chance Pe Dance to name a few, in his portfolio of writing songs.
To talk about their biggest musical of the year, Director, Rajeev Goswami, Bollywood’s famous composer duo Salim-Sulaiman with lyricist Irfan Siddiqui, Lata Mangeshkar Alankaran Award winner and singer Pratibha Singh Baghel who will be playing the character of Umrao Jaan in the play, TV actor Kanika Maheshwari and Chief Marketing Officer at Insider.in Tulika Yadav were present for a press conference.

Lyricist/Producer Irfan Siddiqui commented, “Umrao Jaan Ada is a dream come true not only as a producer but also as a lyricist. It was a big challenge to write lyrics for songs which are on the same album with the legendary songs of Umrao Jaan. I’ve given my best to this album and here’s hoping the audience likes it as much as I liked writing it.”
On the occasion, Salim Sulaiman, the amazing music composers said, “Umrao Jaan Ada is a grand musical extravaganza that brings the experience of Ghazals, Thumri & Khayaal with Mujra & Kathak dance forms live on stage. Weaved through the powerful yet tragic love story of Umrao Jaan & Nawaab sultan. It was indeed a challenge to recreate the music of legendary Khayyam Sahab along with 3 of our own original songs that are composed for the musical. We are really excited to present ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’ to the audience and hope for an overwhelming response.”

Umrao Jaan Ada – The musical is a story of a courtesan, a story of love and struggle that is immersed in culture and opulence with traditional Ghazals, Thumris and Qawalis. The timeless classic story of Umrao Jaan Ada has been adapted from a first-person narrative novel into a new age charismatic performance with larger than life sets, live singing and live music.
