Talented Dancers Set Stage on fire at Dance Xplosion… BFAB!!

An Initiative to Help Youth Feel Empowered

An event to bring a change in the mindsets of people towards dance as a career.

A first of its kind performing arts competition in XPLOSION… B FAB!!! – an initiative to recognise and promote young talent that usually goes unrecognised was organized by Urshilla Dance Company at LTG Auditorium, New Delhi, where over 400 students from Delhi University performed in front of International celebrity dancers.

In other countries, colleges are adopted by corporate houses and sports brands for promotion of talent, but in India that is not the case. And we want to kick start something like that in the Our whole sole aim through this competition is to help youth feel a sense of direction and motivation towards the performing arts. Specially the NGO’ dancers and the soloists out of whom some come from very poor backgrounds, says Bhavini Misra, Director of Urshilla Dance Company.

Most of these youth manage to save funds and participate in competitions on their own initiative. Even though the acumen for dancing is of international standards, the facilities and platforms available are not, Bhavini added.

There were 4 categories for the competition with solo and duet categories; the category also had some underprivileged children coming together.  The whole focus was to wipe the status bar and develop mutual respect and appreciation for artists whether from affluent strata or humble backgrounds. This was followed by performance of NGO Salaam Baalak Trust.

After duets a professional category was there wherein choreography teams of Delhi University participated as also professional performances by leading dance companies including Sadhya Unit of Performing Arts and acclaimed dance companies like; Swag Gang Crew, Indance Nation, Aspa, Central Contemporary Ballet, That’s Dance, Dance Fun, Assemble Art Box, Brooklyn and Banjara School of Dance etc. The final category of the competition was FREE STYLE category; that enthralled the audience with an inflow of some amazing dance performances.

The judges for the categories were SANTOSH NAIR (legendary Chhau and contemporary artist), MEHER MALIK (Renowned Dancer), SAHIL ANEJA (Director and head Bass Crew [Dance plus fame]), SURBHI KAPOOR (Senior Artist), DENISA (International Hip Hop artist and model), SURJIT BANSAL (Bollywood choreographer), HIMANSHI KAROL (Contemporary dancer), HEEMANSHU SINGH (Director That’s Dance) and SUBHASHISH DEY (internationally known artist).
