Diljit works hard to Make You Smile: Arjun Patiala

RATINGS: 2.5/5

Directed by Rohit Jugraj, who is acknowledged for his hit Punjabi flicks like Sardaar Ji and Sardaar Ji 2, when the trailer of Arjun Patiala was released, a lot of fans had high expectations from it. The narrative given in between did a good job making the fans excited. Arjun Patiala is again a cop entertainer but of a different kind, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Kriti Sanon, Varun Sharma, Seema Pahwa, Ronit Roy, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Pankaj Tripathi.

The film starts with an ambitious director pitching a story to a producer with high hopes. This story is all about Arjun Patiala (Diljit Dosanjh) who has only one vision to become a police officer like his icon Inspector Gill (Ronit Roy) who is now a DSP. Just like his idol, Arjun toils hard and earns a place in the Indian Police through the sports quota. He joins as a sub-inspector in-charge of the Ferozpur district police station where he meets the Constable Onidda (Varun Sharma) to fulfill his idol’s dream of making Ferozpur a crime-free district. With Onidda, he plots to get rid of all the major goons and criminals. The biggest of them all is MLA Prapti Makkad (Seema Pahwa). While he works up an ingenious idea, his love-interest reporter Ritu (Kriti Sanon) of Tezz News agonizes about Arjun’s use of braided means to get to his coveted end.

While the film margins on being a parody, it’s entertaining, different and makes for a fun one-time watch. Though Diljit Dosanjh is smooth and does a good job as an adorable yet intense cop, Kriti Sanon does a satisfactory job with her character. Varun Sharma is the goofy side-kick typecasted as always. The film’s concept is novel which was seen in the trailer. Unlike other silly comedy movies which tend to use vulgarity to gain attention, Arjun Patiala has gracefully stayed away from it. Director Rohit Jugraj should be appreciated for making a clean, family entertainer.
